Juneau, San Francisco, Juneau

Juneau held it’s 1st Annual Brewfest and we were there! Mike, Frank, Stacy, Monica and I went and had fun tasting all the Alaska micro-brews. The band was a hoot too!
Monday Sept. 17th, Mike and I flew to San Francisco for his annual MACH meeting. This year the wives were invited. Tuesday Mike went to work and I went to work shopping in the city… Union Square mostly. Wednesday, the MACH wives were treated to a chauffeured tour of Napa Valley. We ate at Michael Chiarello’s Bottega Restaurant in Yountville, California, in the heart of the Napa Valley and it was amazing! We toured the gardens of the French Laundry Restaurant and enjoyed the beautiful flowers and foods. The weather was warm and sunny perfect for touring. We toured the winery Castello Di Amorosa which is a gorgeous castle in the middle of Napa Valley. The end of our tour we were treated to a wine tasting accompanied by chocolates. It doesn’t get much better than this! The driver dropped us off at David & Natalie Arpi’s home (Mike’s co-worker’s) where we had a wonderful evening of food, drink and good company. Thursday, Kim picked me up and we headed to West Marine where I ran into an old friend Mike Priest. I dropped my iPhone which shattered and is now ruined. We caught up with our friend Lisa for lunch before heading to meet Jim DeWitt. Jim is doing a painting of one of my photos and Kim took me to meet him. What a treat to meet him and what an honor to have him ask my permission to paint my photo! We treated ourselves to much needed pedicures before heading to Quinn’s Lighthouse for dinner and drinks with Heidi & Joe (our dock neighbors in PV), Dale & Pam (Mike’s co-worker and his wife) as well as a couple of friends of Kim. We had a great time!
Friday morning as we were preparing to head to the airport, we were treated to a fly by of the space shuttle. If I had known we were on their flight path I might have had a camera out!
We returned to Juneau for our last week. It is really amazing how fast the time has gone. We woke to find two huge moose racks in the back of Allen’s truck. Allen and his son Evan had each gotten moose on their hunting trip and invited us to a moose dinner. This was a first for me and it was delicious.
During our absence, a bear got a little too brazen in downtown and had to be put down. If people would only put their trash where it belongs and not on the street, these problems wouldn’t happen.
I am still keeping Autumn Tuesdays and Thursdays. She loves playing with blocks and reading books. I love watching her grow and learn. I will miss her!
Carmen had Stacy and me over for a day of good old fashion Italian cooking. She taught us to make he grandmother’s Braicole which is kind of a meet roll. But it so much more that that and delicious as well! Of course we had to taste the wine we were putting in the sauce while visiting and hearing stories of Italian families and Carmens recent trip to Italy.
The weather has turned quite cold here and the leaves have fallen off the trees. I got my hair cut short in preparation of our return to hot weather and we are starting to think about packing.
