Boats & Cocodrilos…

Our friend Rick called and asked if I could give him a hand at the end of our dock. I walked down to find five brand new J70 sailboats! I ended up spending the entire day and into the evening helping Wayne and Rick rig these boats. They look like they will be a blast to sail and race! I was invited to sail on them during the next two days but I had a regatta to sail on Dreadnought and had to pass. Hopefully another time.
Racing was fun , the weather was beautiful and the whales very playful. We were shorthanded on Dreadnought so Christine and I spent the two days hopping from the pit to trim which was a lot of work. We had four races on Saturday with the last one ending at a restaurant/beach bar, El Dorado for a fiesta. The first boat with a tactician who swam to shore and had a shot won that race… we were 2nd. We did end up in 1st place for the day. We were awarded 1st for the month of January. On Sunday, we ended up in 2nd place by one point due to one boat who fouled us badly in the last race.
Our next dock neighbors, Irwin and Phyllis bought a condo in Marina Vallarta and moved their boat across the bay to their new digs. We will miss them, we really enjoyed their company. One of the things about cruising on a boat is meeting new friends and saying goodbye to them. We hope to see them again and look forward to meeting new friends.
We have been getting boat projects done getting Mermaid ready to do some cruising. The galley is getting quite close to being done! A few fixes of things we realized at anchor that didn’t quite work the way we designed them. Like doing a little “macrame” to keep dishes from rolling out of their designated spots. am very glad I learned to macrame as a kid!
Mike, PeeWee and I have been enjoying dink rides in the evening around the estuary spotting the crocodiles (cocodrilo in Spanish). PeeWee doesn’t seem to be so thrilled to see the critters…
We went to an SSCA cruiser potluck and enjoyed chatting with current friends and meeting new friends.
We are still helping Dick with the Puddle Jump seminars and it has been fun meeting the cruisers who are about to cross the Pacific for the first time. It brings back lots of memories for us!
