Bandaras Bay Regatta

We had several invitations to crew on boats for the regatta from friends who were serious about winning the races. We opted to sail with friends aboard a “party boat” and had a ball! The boat – a Lagoon 38 catamaran! Mike was the tactician and I trimmed sails.
DAY ONE:
The first day was a practice and we managed to be late to the line, hook the leeward mark and drop the halyard on the jib and get it stuck. OK, all the issues out of the way before the regatta was the word on the boat. After the practice everyone went to Vallarta Yacht Club for drinks, a Cuban dinner and a really good band.
DAY TWO:
Our first day of racing but most importantly this was the boat parade! The theme of the parade was “Finding Nemo” and we decided to be sushi chefs who found Nemo. We had so much fun! One boat told us that it was in bad taste…. Whatever!
After the parade we ate a lovely lunch and headed out to the race course. We actually made our start on time and had a good start. The first leg upwind was great and our spinnaker run went well too. On the long leg up the beach to the third mark was a bit slow. We needed a bigger jib. We ended up last but I think we had more fun than any other crew! After racing we went to the Yacht Club for drinks, dinner and more good music.
We look forward to the rest of the racing, playing and fun during the Bandaras Bay Regatta as it continues.
