America’s Cup

This post is out of order but… I was fortunate enough to go to San Francisco to be part of the media for the America’s Cup the end of August. As soon as I landed I took BART and a taxi to go check in at the event. I was tired of carrying bags so I went to find a taxi back to BART. There were no taxis to be found but I saw a bus that said BART so I hopped on and texted Kim to let her know where I was. Oh man was I ever on the wrong bus! I got the “lost tourist tour” of San Francisco. After two hours on that smelly bus I arrived at a BART station and hopped on. Kim picked me up and whisked me to dinner with friends at Quinn’s and we stayed to listen to the band. We had a blast! I stayed with my friend Kim who introduced me to new friends. We played with Lisa, Ruby and Chris as well as others.
Kim drove me to the BART station so I could head to the races. Just as she was dropping me off, her friend Lisa called her and said she should skip work and go watch the America’s Cup. Fortunately I had not gotten out of the car yet! We headed to the city, met up with Lisa and headed to Marina Green. We sat on the sea wall and watched the action while I took several hundred photos. After the races we went to the first bar we could find where Lisa checked in on Facebook. Soon it was a party as others joined us.
The next day I watched the action from a similar spot and took several hundred more photos. I loved watching the match racing as well as the fleet racing in the cats… it was amazing!
On the last day of the races I was fortunate enough to be put on a media boat. I was on the windward mark boat and very close to the action. What a great day and week!
Before I knew it was time to go back to SFO and head back to Alaska. I left with new friends, great photos and lots of memories!
